【The China Post 每日精選】:二 英文中國郵報 2017/05/11 06:13:00 TAIPEI, Taiwan — Kuomintang (KMT) chairmanship candidates hammered away on party unity and reform on national TV at a debate organized by the CTI Television, marking the first of its kind in the party's history.▲圖/翻攝自中國郵報In regards to securing solidarity from party members, incumbent Chairwoman Hung Hsiu-chu (洪秀柱) said that she had been "leading as an example" by not complaining after she was suddenly removed as the party's presidential candidate last year and continuing to serve the party.Hung's Vice KMT Chairman and former Taipei City Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) however hinted that Hung's leadership could lead to deeper segregation among low level members of the party."Party unity lies with the behavior and manners the candidates demonstrate," Hau said, asserting that this election has seen far too much negative campaigning.Hau added that if candidates were not able to campaign "peacefully" and stay "in harmony" with each other before the election, there would be little possibility of the opposition party achieving unity afterwards.'Chiang Ching-kuo is my role model': WuFormer Vice President Wu Den-yih (吳敦義) said he looked to Chiang Ching-kuo (蔣經國) as role model, who served as premier between 1972-78 after his father and was the president from 1978 until his death in 1988.Wu said that like Chiang, who claimed to be Chinese as wellas Taiwanese.He also said he wouldn't rule out any possibility of unifying the party and the country.Former Legislator Pan Wei-kang (潘維剛) said that she will never cause division among party members.'I'm only running because the DPP is utterly incapable': Pan"The only reason I decided to run for chairmanship is because the ruling party is utterly incapable," Pan said.Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜), a rising star and the former Chairman of the Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Co. under Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) said that there were three stages of party division, it first starts at the core team, and then the entire group of high-level management, and then the whole basis of the party.'Party must regain the trust of the grassroots': HanThe regular party members were feeling hopeless and were no longer proud of the KMT, Han said.He reiterated that party unity must prioritize regaining confidence and trust from the low-level members.He welcomed anti-Taiwan independence politicians to join the KMT.Former Vice Chairman Steve Chan (詹啟賢) echoed Hau on the overwhelming negative campaigning thus far in the election, asserting that he advocates for rational campaigning, in the hope that he as a candidate provides an alternative for party members in building a "different KMT." 上一頁 下一頁
